Nothing Is Impossible 16 x 20 Acrylic

I woke up one morning a couple of weeks ago with a vivid image in my mind. In my dream I saw a completed painting of a crow perched on a branch. What stood out even more to me were the colors in the painting…shades and tints of blues and mauves, they were beautiful. I was determined to try and recreate what I saw. It was a challenge and I reached a point where I considered abandoning the idea completely but I don’t give up that easily and decided to keep going….because….nothing is impossible.

Black Capped Chickadee is the New Brunswick Provincial Bird.
It flits about singing all winter long…this sweet little bird symbolizes cheerfulness, the seeker of truth, and sacred spiral. It relates to being optimistic even through difficult times.
During the winter, the chickadee’s body produces more feathers for warmth. On a very cold day, you may see a chickadee fluffing up its feathers. This creates more space between the feathers to trap air that insulates the body.
But the chickadee’s feet don’t have feathers. How can they keep their bodies warm with those bare feet out in the cold? Its body has a slick trick. It cuts down the blood flow to its feet just enough so they don’t freeze.

To keep from wasting energy, the chickadee learns to live with cold feet.

This painting is a combination of all kinds of wonderful, meaningful elements and a true expression of my living in the moment. It’s the kind of work that excites me and puts a fire in my soul. Words are powerful to me and I’ve been looking at how I could incorporate them into my work. Dragonflies are one of my most favourite things with wings. They are beautiful to look at and their symbolism is fascinating!

The exhibition committee at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre was looking for submissions exploring the idea of Lost and Found. Where could this concept lead…lost mittens, bicycles, pets or lost youth, loves, dreams?

I decided to apply and this piece was accepted into the group exhibit.

Lost Youth Found Wisdom is the portrait of a woman whose youth is lost in terms of age. She has the memories but will never see her 20′s, 30′s or her 40′s again. Her journey through midlife finds her gaining valuable wisdom and insight as life lessons repeatedly present themselves. As she gets older she finds herself acquiring a quiet confidence and inner peace.

The exhibit will be on until October 27th-2011 at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre, 732 Charlotte Street, Fredericton N.B. The other pieces are amazing! Go have a look, truly a mind opening experience.
